Rochester, NY Orlando City kept its seven-match unbeaten streak alive by fighting hard for a 0-0 draw with the Rochester Rhinos in upstate New York. Orlando is now 5-1-2 on the season, and has not lost since their season-opening match in Richmond.
After a back and forth opening 10 minutes, City started to gain possession of the game. The Rhinos fought back and took control near minute 20, setting the stage for a tug-of-war all match long. Player/coach Ian Fuller picked up a minor calf injury in the 36th minute. He was replaced by Jack Traynor for precautionary measures. The Lions will need Fuller with a match coming up in less than 48 hours in Harrisburg.
The Lions were dealt another blow early in the second half. Center back Kieron Bernard was struck in the head after clearing a ball. Clearly shaken up, Bernard was removed, again for precautionary measures, and replaced by fellow countryman Demar Stewart. The second half went on much like the first physical, back-and-forth, and without a major scoring chance.
The Lions will face the Harrisburg City Islanders on Sunday for the second leg of their marathon three matches in six days. Kickoff is set for 3 pm in Harrisburg. The match can be seen on www.usllive.com, the USL PROs free video streaming service. Orlando City returns home for the final leg of the marathon on Wednesday against the undefeated Richmond Kickers.
